Volunteering abroad is a life-changing, highly personal experience. You will be exposed to different perspectives and worldviews during your stay. You will learn from the communities where you work, the experience of traveling in the country, and the interaction with new people.

Making a difference can also mean sharing your enthusiasm, specific knowledge, skills, and experience you may have. But the experience extends far beyond hands-on service with many opportunities for cultural exchange and personal transformation and making new friends it will give you the opportunity for self-reflection and learning. The impact of your service can last a lifetime, for you and the community you served.

If you have an interest in volunteering and learning about another culture, you can be of service. Making a difference can be as simple as sharing love and affection with orphans through a hug, playing team-building sports with at-risk youth, sharing stories and photos with the elderly in a community, practicing conversational English with children and adults seeking new career opportunities or just taking a group of orphanas to the local swimming pool where they can cool of and have some fun.

A volunteer holiday with Allambie offers a great opportunity for individuals, families and groups who want to experience a new destination and/or activity whilst doing something worthwhile. We offer a variety of short-term volunteering holidays that combine adventure travel, cultural excursions and much more.

What Allambie can offer
We have links with other orphanages such as Phu My Orphanage in Binh Thanh District that I had a personal experience working in during 2007.

Phu My is an orphanage that cares for abandoned children with mental and physical handicaps, there are over 400 abandoned children at this orphanage, many of them are bed ridden and a high number with hydrocephalus.

These children do not have much hope of a future, some of these children’s physical and mental handicaps can be put down to post warfare namely Agent Orange that was used during the Vietnam war.

Most of them cannot speak for themselves, but what they need is be stimulated, picked up and loved.

Ms Cucs English school which as 30 street children that attend this school for free. Ms Dons orphanage that has 70 children ranging from new born to teenagers that have been abandoned for many different reasons these a just to few out of many orphanages that Allambie has links with.

Vietnamese Cookery Lessons
miss-bit-profile-picVietnamese cuisine is one of the world healthiest cuisines in the world. With rice, herbs and fresh ingredients and imaginative flavours, and one of the highlights of any trip to Vietnam is the food. Even if you do not expect to do much Vietnamese cooking, a cooking class is a fun and interesting way to learn about the local ingredients and how to make some of the popular dishes.

The cooking classes will take place at Allambie Orphanage and are half-day classes starting in the morning with a trip to Ben Thanh Market where the Chef assists and advises participants how to hand-pick the freshest ingredients. You will learn to cook with the Allambie’s own in-house Vietnamese cook and owner Suzanne Thi Hien, who is a qualified chef.

The market is then followed by a cooking demonstration and you will then cook some of the dishes yourself and learn presentation skills such as making roses out tomatoes or swan out of lemon etc. You will then have lunch with the children where you can eat the dishes that you have prepared.

Some of the dishes you will make will be fresh shrimp spring rolls with hoisin peanut sauce, BBQ eggplant, braised river prawn with Vietnamese curry, fried spring roll with a sweet chilli sauce, beef luc lac, chicken salad with Vietnamese herbs, spicy and sour fish soup, and banana sweet and many more.

You will also learn how, master chopsticks, eat in a Vietnamese way and how to savour what you have cooked.

Lessons start from $50 and upwards depending on your requirements and how many hours you wish to cook.
