Volunteer Info

As Allambie  a registered UK Charity we have strict guidelines that we must follow with respect to people wishing to volunteer and visit Allambie.

All applicants must send an up to date CV with a recent photo and contact number. We also require a separate document that tells us a little more about yourself and your personal life e.g. your hobbies, your family life etc. We also require a CRB police check certificate. Finally, Allambie also requires two references.

If you are not from the UK, We still require a CRB check or the equivalent from the country that you are from.

If you are from the UK, the best place to get a CRB check done is online (see link below). They do a remote trawl of police/govt databases. It costs approximately £50 for a basic check and this will be fine for Allambie. http://payment.personnelchecks.co.uk/

When you complete the CRB check you will need to quote the name of the orphanage and the charity number, see below:

Name: Allambie Orphanage
Registered Charity Number: 1137521

We do not allow volunteers to live with us but there are plenty of cheap hotels and hostels in Vietnam depending on your budget and length of stay. If you need any advice on this, then we would happy to help and advise you.

There is an area called the Backpacker District also known as Pham Ngu Lao Street in District 1 which has loads of cheap places to stay from hostels to individual rooms and hotels. A lot of our volunteers stay there as the prices start from $5 a night but if your budget can be stretched, there are some nice cheap hotels away from that area as it can be quite noisy due to the large number of bars and cafes.

There is a guest house near us, only a 5 minutes walk away which has agreed to give my volunteers a discount. If you would like more info on this guest house let us know.

Once you have been accepted as a volunteer or visitor to Allambie, we will meet you in person in Saigon and have a face to face to chat with you before you meet the Allambie children.

Many of our volunteers had never previously volunteered before but they all had a brilliant time and it is their heart and spirit that counts the most when helping these children. You can read about our volunteer’s thoughts on their time at Allambie on our testimonials page.

Allambie always needs volunteers to help with the children and whatever time you can spare is greatly appreciated, may that be for a week, two weeks or a month or more. We also need to understand when you are wanting to volunteer and how long for.
